Winter 2014 Anime: First Impressions / Winter Plans

This was one crazy week for watching anime. The winter season has arrived with it’s ABUNDANCE of watchable shows. I will go through all of the first episodes I have seen so far and comment on them and will also only blog about a select few. I’ll probably do a series wrap-up for the ones that I missed and I’ll definitely do weekly episode reviews for the ones that I deem worthy.

For now, I’ll just give my first impression rating out of 5.
1 No thanks
2 Meh, I’m okay with it, others probably not.
3 Average, we’ll see how it turns out
4 Good Solid start, probably going to be a solid anime
5 WHOA, that was a crazy good start

Chuunibyou 2

Let’s start off with Chuunibyou!

For an anime that is returning with a second season it brings a lot back to the table and keeps the same style with this first episode. Obviously big changes in the anime, like what Nibutani looks like, but overall still the same Chuunibyou we all love. I’m looking forward to this next season and I will definitely be blogging about this one, so keep your eyes out for for these blogs!

First Impression 3.5/5

Mahou Sensou

I don’t know about this one guys, it looks WAY TO SIMILAR to strike the blood. I personally thought strike the blood was a mess. Un-organized and not really up to standard with Anime of today. So far this anime is looking kind of like that, let’s just hope it doesn’t turn into it. For now, everything seems to be OKAY but we will see how the plot turns out and if they end up ruining it with too much ecchi. For now, the action animations are okay, and it’s not too boring to watch. As far as blogging goes, I don’t think I have room for something like this, it screams strike the blood, and if I’m too uncertain of it, probably not worth my time to blog. But in any case, I’ll watch this one to the end and then give a series review

First Impression 2.5/5

Mikakunin de Shinkoukei

This one looks okay too. Probably one of the more stranger romances to be watching this season as it’s about arranged marriages and really I don’t think anyone can relate in this day and age, so I don’t really know how I feel about it. So far it’s pretty good because the characters are pretty solid. The main girl has a good personality but I’m not too sure about the male. In any case, I might end up blogging about this one just out of pure interest in the anime itself. I’m probably going to wait until episode 2 airs and see if I have enough time to actually blog this one. For now, I’ll keep this one on my wait-list.

First Impression 3/5

At first glance this anime looks really quite good. A bit of action, a bit of comedy, a bit of mystery and romance and it looks really good to me. The plot itself is very original and a little humorous. If you’re looking for a good kick to the winter season stop right here and watch Noragami. It definitely has the best first episode impression in the Winter season and it looks very promising and original. I already have my first blog post out and I will continue blogging about Noragami

First Impression 4.5/5

Seitokai Yakuindomo*

This is another season 2 series coming out this winter and it looks decent. I actually haven’t seen the first season of this anime which is unfortunate. I was looking around for a torrent but couldn’t find one, probably will just stream it. SYD is purely a comedy anime. The episode itself was pretty funny. I think it would have been funnier had I watched the first season, but I think if you guys have seen the first season of SYD you’ll probably like the second. Even though I never saw the first, I enjoyed most of the jokes that they put on. A lot of them were dirty jokes and 16+ jokes, so don’t watch this if you’re 16 and under. I probably won’t continue watching this anime until I’ve completed watching the first season. That being said no blogs will be posted and also I won’t post a series completion of this anime as I probably won’t be watching it.

First Impression 3/5

Super Sonico The Animation

I always have to have at the very least one anime that has “music” as one of its genres. I was debating between Wake-Up Girls and SuperSonico which one to watch. I still don’t know if I’ll keep both or not. We’ll see.

My first impression is that this is going to be fairly similar in style to K-on. I can already tell that this ditsy girl is going for that slice of life factor. Nothing at all tells me that there is going to be a plot and nothing really tells me that this is going to have a whole tonne of drama. Just moemoemoe. Of course, I learn’t my lesson last time about blogging about moe shows. I probably won’t.

First Impression 2/5

Toaru Hikuushi e no koi uta / The Pilot’s Love Song

You already have seen one blog post from me and probably already know what kind of first impression it gives off on me. I really liked the first episode because it was pretty original. I think that the whole concept of the show is really unique and the animation style is really different from other anime.

The whole adventure concept to me really draws me into this anime. I love adventures because they generally tell some great stories.

First Impression 3.5/5

Witch Craft Works

Well this is a bit different. This anime at first glance is a bit corny. But I like corny so lets move past that and keep talking about it. Boy meets unreachable girl and girl reaches out to boy. This is a pretty typical story line for us anime watchers. What makes this exciting is that J.C. Staff picked up this anime. Which means it can’t be that bad can it? Personally J.C. Staff is my favorite producer so we’ll see how this turns out.

Magic, Shounen, fantasy, highschool, slicey setting. If you’re looking for a laid back anime to watch, this one isn’t a terrible choice. I probably won’t be blogging about this one either just because there are so many left overs from the fall season. I just don’t have enough time in my life to blog about all these anime.

First Impression 3/5

The anime is strangely based off of a guy who really doesn’t get along with many girls in his lifetime and he gets kicked in the face by the girl who this anime will rotate around. For sure this anime is funny and has a tonne of comedy. This is your typical slice of life school romance genre with a bit of a gang member twist.

If  you’re looking for a rom-com to follow this one is probably your best bet. I’ll be blogging about this one for sure, it looks great on the eyes and it’s also got some great places to put some heavy drama.

First Impression 3.5/5

  1. Oh, you watched Nisekoi already? Looks like I have a lot to catch up on! Noragami episode 2 is out and I can’t wait to watch it, though I don’t know if I have the time to watch it today.
