Top 5

Top 5: Anime Characters

I know I already have a Top 5: Anime Girls section, but that’s really kind of old and outdated. Plus it kind of includes girls that are from really popular series and girls that are fawned over by many a person. In this new list, it will also include and represent the male population, (except I only have one male character). This list could also change as new characters are churned out by the season. This review unlike others will contain spoilers due to the nature of the topics.

Honourable Mention: Aoyama, Nanami

Nanami is a character from Sakurasou and she is one of the better characters in the show. She has a cute quirky Japanese accent when she gets frustrated and she is a hard worker. She wants to achieve things on her own which creates this unique personality of her. The way she acts when she talks to Sorata is very cute and I like the way she responds to it. It’s really disappointing to see her get rejected but at the same time she was never an opponent for Shina. She’s pretty, funny, hardworking and an independent individual and you are going to notice a trend with my favourite characters because they are generally all like that.

Number 5: Linda (Nana)

Linda is a character from Goldentime and possibly the only redeeming factor of the whole anime. Despite the ending of the anime being the most disappointing ending, you can’t help but fall in love with Linda. She is the reason we all watched Goldentime in the first place. To be honest, I think I liked the high-school version of Linda the best (but don’t we all). She’s the best friend girl-type that will always be the only the best friend. Due to the nature of how timings worked out in Banri’s life, he couldn’t date Linda and honestly she was definitely the best choice. She was a down-to-earth girl who was pretty, smart, not high-maintenance and she was independent as well. I’m still pretty upset that Banri didn’t choose Linda because they had such amazing scenes together but, it makes for a good number 5 on my list.

Number 4: Ayuzawa, Misaki

Misaki is the main character from Kaichou wa Maid-Sama. It helps that the whole anime is focused on her for the whole time so that we can view Misaki’s personality in a large extent. She is the same kind of girl as Aoyama, a tackle on everything girl who can do everything by herself. She has a black-belt, and she can take on any unwanted guy. You don’t want to be on the bad side of Misaki. She again is very independent, but the best parts about her is when she wants to be dependent. It takes a very special person for Misaki to be dependent on him and I guess Usui would fit that description very well. Their relationship goes above and beyond the word cute, and I have to say that if it weren’t for Usui that Misaki would be a fairly one-directional character. Misaki is stunning in a maid, she is head-strong, street-strong, an independent hrd worker and has a funny personality.

Number 3: Miyazono, Kaori

Kaori from Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso. I think one of the main characters from an amazing anime such as Shigatsu deserves a spot in my top 5 anime characters for sure. Kaori is the definition of colour for our heroine Arima. She is energetic, lovely, and spontaneous. The way she talks about music and how it affects us is correct in so many ways. If you are a musician, the way that Kaori talks about making music is the way we should all exemplify when we play whatever we are. “What’s your image”. What is the image that you want to project to people when you play music. Speak, sing, through your music and you will go places. For Kaori she does this at every appearance on the stage because she knows that life is too short to not express what you want. She always wants to take every opportunity for everyone to hear her performances and she doesn’t waste any expression in her music. She is always positive and always cheerful, Never a dull-moment when you are near Kaori Miyazono. *I hope she doesn’t die*

Number 2: Mashima, Taichi

Taichi from Chihayafuru. Where do I start with this character. I am going to go into manga spoilers in this review of taichi so please don’t read it if you don’t want to be spoiled. He is the only male character on this list and he is well deserved of this spot. I think I aspire to have most of the personality traits that Taichi has. For one thing, this guy has it all but really has nothing he wants. He has the looks, he’s very good at sports, he is the top of the class but he cannot obtain Chihaya’s love and he cannot beat Arata at Karuta. He exerts all of his time and all of his energy at both of these goals. He wants to beat Arata at something in his life. Whether it be winning at Karuta or winning over Chihaya, at the very least one of these two factors will come true. The fact of the matter is, Taichi has tried everything in his power for the past two years or so to obtain one of these goals. We also know that Taichi has had the most character development in the manga for any character including Chihaya herself. Taichi is the most dynamic character and what he does is what drives this manga. Now recently he has been rejected by Chihaya and says “I am not made out of stone”, steals a kiss, and runs off and quits Karuta. Well wait a second, does this mean that Taichi has completely lost out on his goals for the past 2 years of his life?! Maybe, but I see this as a turning point in the manga. These two goals have always unattainable in Taichi’s eyes. He can’t beat Arata no matter how hard he tries. He came to the point where he got desperate and confessed with his last chance on his Birthday. He gets rejected, but now all Chihaya sees is how much pain she brought Taichi. How she ignored him for years even though he was always right beside him. And now, even Chihaya has quit the karuta club and maybe, just maybe, we will see a turning point and success for Taichi in at least one of the aspects. Getting Chihaya, or beating Arata in becoming meijin. For me, I think the manga is going in the direction where he will win Chihaya and lose to Arata in the meijin fight because really, all Arata cares about is becoming the Meijin. He does care for Chihaya but would he be the best fit for Chihaya? I think not. Do you think the author would write so much about Taichi just so he could lose in his life objectives? I think not. This manga still has about another year or two left of material before we really find out what happens and hopefully by that time I will have accomplished learning Japanese so that I can read the chapters faster than they are translated.

Number 1: Kirisaki, Chitoge

Chitoge is from the very popular shounen Nisekoi. I thought long and hard about who should sit on top, if it was going to be Taichi or if it was going to be Chitoge. I really ended up choosing Chitoge because she is a female who represents a lot of the female type characters that I enjoy watching in anime. This would be of course the lovely Tsundere model. I love tsundere’s, from Kirisaki, Kirino, Asuna, Misaki all of these girls are so perfectly created to fit in this false stereotype. I don’t actually think girls act like a tsundere which makes it really extra special towards this genre. It is amazing how cute a girl is when she is madly in love, doesn’t realize it, and gets angry at the boy. For Chitoge herself, I love how amazingly pretty she is drawn and honestly love the way that she acts around Raku. I really don’t like Raku, but besides that, I think that Chitoge really defines the reason why Nisekoi works with the false relationship. It just wouldn’t work without a Tsundere lead. It would just be so weird to watch this anime interaction with anything else. Of course the manga has gone off to be nothing but a School-time harem shit show (pardon my french) but it really isn’t good right now. There is a lot of good material in the manga but recently it has not been. I hope the second season will pick and draw out the main plot of the story rather than all these filler arcs we’re getting from the artist.

Top 5 Fall Anime 2014

With the end of the fall anime I know some of you want to know what is good to watch! I can tell you for certain that this season was sprinkled with so many delightful series that it will be hard to just narrow it down to 5. But without further ado lets get started with my one honourable mention.

Honourable Mention: Shirobakoshirobako

Shirobako is the fall-winter series that PA-works has decided to work on. It’s anime about making anime’s. It is an original anime with no previous adaptations from manga or visual novels. Surprisingly redeeming from the work that they did in the summer (Glasslip). This work in contrast is just really interesting to watch. From drawing, to voice actors, to episode directors we follow the life of five girls (however only really one) in the anime industry and the struggles that come with it. It’s not really an intense show and its a good one to watch when you are feeling laid back and not really a lot of excitement.

Genres: Anime-making, Slice of Life, P.A.Works

Number 5: 月物語 (Tsukimonogatari)

Tsukimonogatari (The moon story) is another addition of SHAFT’s monogatari series that aired in full on Dec 31 (RIGGGGHT on the end of the fall season). If you like the monogatari-series this is a no-brainer choice for you as it will dive again right back in the world of araragi-senpai. This story I believe takes place before Hanamonogatari which was released in the summer. In particular I thought this was a very average monogatari story but for fans I’m sure the story was amazing. Personally I miss watching senjougahara but due to the nature of the Monogatari series I wasn’t expecting to see her a lot anyways. Without dealing out too many spoilers this arc deals a lot about Araragi and Yotsugi. The main reason why I watched tsukimonogatari is because of how I am such fanboy for Claris. Their new single border was the ED song for this anime and it was amazing.

Genre: Mystery, SHAFT, Drama

Number 4: Amagi Brilliant Park

Amagi Brilliant Park or Amiburi is the KyoAni work of the season and it is a very good one. It is a 13 – episode spread that really feels like a 12 episode spread and an OVA. This work is basically about our main character Kanie trying to save the horrendously built park that we know as Amagi. This show is related to basically every kind of work that Kyoto Animations does. Free!, Tamako Market, K-on, It really has that kind of slice of life feel. The art is the same typical Kyoto Animations art and the main character looks like he was taken straight out of  Free! and Hyouka. This is solid choice to pick up if you are searching for a good comical slice of life.

Genre: Slice of Life, Comedy, KyoAni

Number 3: Parasyte the Maxim

Parasyte or 規制樹 is a work done by Madhouse. Similar to Tokyo Ghoul, the MC shares a symbiotic relationship with an organism that we call parasytes. Now, the show itself has a lot of action, a lot of drama and it’s filled with mystery as to what the objective of the parasytes are. The biggest objective is that the Parasytes want to take over humans bodies. Our MC, Izumi is a lucky person, since his parasyte failed the objective and could only take over his hand. Nicknamed Migi(“Right” in English) the two of them work together in our story and tackle on all sorts of problems caused by the Parasytes. The story itself is very interesting and has kept me wanting the next episode for weeks. If you haven’t already started watching this show, it is a very easy pick-up.

Genre: Action, Mystery, Madhouse

Number 2: Psycho-Pass 2

The sequel to Psychopass created by Production I.G. Now if you’ve seen the first Psycho-pass perhaps you should think about picking up the second. There are a couple things that people did not like about the show, one, is that it had nothing to do with our previous heroine Kougami, and two, The conclusion to the series was a little awkward for some people. I personally thought this show was amazing. The amount of tension and drama that occurred in the show was enough to draw me into it. There is a couple years space in between the first and the second season so you might be surprised at a couple of the changes made between the characters. For one, our MC Akane Tsunemori, has a more cold-hearted, confident, unwavering heart. I feel her head is stronger and her heart more secured in this season compared to the last, and a lot of that has to do with the experience she has gained in the field. If you don’t think watching the second season will ruin your conception of Psycho-Pass I would definitely give it a go because it has a wonderful story.

Genre: Action, Mystery, Drama, I.G. Productions

Number 1: 四月は君の嘘 (Your Lie in April)

Shigatsu ha kimi no uso or Your lie in April is the creation of A-1 Pictures. This music and dramatic slice of life will blow you away and you must pick this anime up. This anime is filled with dramatic moments, romance, and tonnes of classical music. You are going to instantly fall in love the characters. Arima Kousei our male protagonist is a piano player who’s life is colourless, monotone, and greyscaled. On a fateful day in April he meets the girl who fills his world with colour. Our female protagonist, Kaori Miyazono, a violin player who plays her music with emotion and life. The two of them enter competitions and tackle on life struggles. This anime sits at my number one for the season… This has the potential to sit at the number one spot of my whole anime list. There is so much drama, so much emotion in this anime that you will not be able to stop watching it. You don’t need to know classical music but it would be a plus if you like it. If you are looking for a heart-wrencher, Look no more because I think this might even top Clannad After Story(King of sadness).

Genre: Drama, Music, Romance, A-1 Pictures

Top 5: Relationships that will never happen

This is a sad topic for me, I really love relationships and when they don’t go my way I’m a sucker for the other person. It almost makes me depressed to the point where I feel like I was the one who got rejected instead of an anime character. Call me a Romance Otaku pls. I rated this on these criteria, the amount of pain that it caused when they didn’t get together and also how well they would have looked together. Let’s take a look at my top 5 relationships that will never happen. I pretty much have a love hate relationship with love triangles… By the way, I’m going out of my way and making guesses for the relationships that are obviously not going to happen. At this point in time, I’m guessing that three of the five aren’t going to happen and I know for sure that two of the five aren’t going to happen. So yes, I will be speculating that they will never happen. But this post CLEARLY CONTAINS SPOILERS. So if you don’t like spoilers then don’t read. But if you are butt hurt about some relationships like I am then go right ahead and read…

Rolling in at number 5….

5. Nisekoi: Ichijou and Onodera

Now, I know the anime isn’t over, but let’s face it fans this isn’t going to happen. I mean, look at where the anime is going with the show. We are ten episodes in and they are slowly pulling Kirisaki and Ichijou closer and closer. I mean the whole premise of the show is to make the false-love into a real one. But without getting into too much of a debate lets talk about Onodera and Ichijou.

Cute, so cute. The reason why this isn’t a little higher is because they just don’t really have that much interaction between them. Yes they get a lot of screentime together and yes they like each other a lot, but there really isn’t too much depth behind the love. I mean a 10 year ago promise? That has no depth if you don’t remember the person or their name. WHAT KIND OF PROMISE IS THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE IF YOU DON’T KNOW THEIR NAME… Also, they look cute together, they really do. But they just have that reaction to each other. I like that feeling sometimes, but at the end of the day, what really matters to me the most is how much depth there is in our friendship and what it means to me. I could go on about friendship and more, but this is just too much. Onodera and Ichijou will never happen.

Reasons being:

1. Kirisaki is the main premise of the show, she is the main girl and she will fall in love with Ichijou
2. Onodera and Ichijou would be a “cute” couple but a couple with no depth to it.
3. Ichijou is definitely falling in love with Kirisaki, he knows her quirks and her quarks and this is clearly the direction of the show.

Heart breaking for me, but I like kirisaki more anyways if you couldn’t tell. I think either matchup would fit, but kirisaki and Ichijou work way better

4. Toradora: Ryuuji x Minori

minori x ryuuji

Ahh everyone loves a classic. I don’t have as much to say about this since it’s already done.. BUT, the whole point of the show was supposed to be to get together with Minori and somehow turned around and he went for Taiga… GO FIGURE!

Well, what’s so sad about this is that she has a beautiful heart and she really liked Ryuuji in the end. I think she is so kind a thoughtful. Her personality is sparking and energetic and I like girls who are like that. I think she will learn a lot from this heart ache and we can take a lot from this anime.

3. Golden Time: Banri and Linda

Banri x Linda

When the rain falls, when the wind blows… When the flowers scatter, when the shadows loom… In every sign I’ll search for your voice. – Banri

Well, it’s been a couple days since I posted about Linda and Banri and I think it’s time to face the fact that they are probably not getting together in the series. It just wouldn’t make any sense. Koko and Banri are written all over the OP’s and ED’s and there’s like a 1000% chance that they are not getting together. Does this mean I think Koko is a better fit for Banri? HELL NO. Linda was 100000% better choice. She stuck beside him thick and thin. How is it her fault that he fell off the bridge. THATS NOT LINDA’S FAULT. I mean, of course we don’t know what she was going to say on that bridge but still. LOOK AT HER NOW. I love linda, her personality is off the charts awesome. Her interactions with Banri are OFF THE CHARTS AWESOME. Look at Koko, she is SUCH A B%@#! “Oh I broke up with you yesterday, lets be friends” Okay, that’s not how it works Koko. You are being a total…. AIUHF. I was actually warming up to the idea of Koko being his girlfriend but now I can’t handle it. It’s too much. She doesn’t deserve Banri. Banri deserves Linda… Case closed #teamlinda

2. Sakurasou: Sorata and Nanami

Sorata x Nanami

“You know, I’ve always… always… loved you… No, I really I love you” – Nanami

I LOVED THIS ANIME. The love triangle in this was too much for me to handle sometimes. It’s almost DEPRESSING to see how much Nanami loved Sorata and didn’t say anything. I think it’s the most painful thing to HOLD IT IN. How can you love someone so much and not tell them. It’s probably the most painful thing ever. EVER. I’ve experienced it before and it’s not fun. Probably the worst regret in my whole life is not telling someone that I loved them. You can’t get over them until they reject you. That’s just how it is.

Again, the anime is just set-up for Mashiro. Nanami really almost had 0 chance to take it away. I mean, she is probably the most sincere, best couple material for Sorata. But how can you NOT LIKE MASHIRO. But I was pretty damn sad in this anime. I felt Nanami’s pain 100% of the way. Probably portrayed in one of the best ways possible. This might sound weird, but I love watching the heart ache, I love watching the pain. Not because it’s fun, but because I’ve been there before and knowing that someone else knows my pain and shares it makes everything feel better. If you can connect to an anime like this, it’s the best.

1. Chihayafuru: Taichi and Chihaya

taichi x chihaya

Yeah, I’m hopelessly in love with Chihaya. – Taichi

I think I’m going to cry. This one is the most heart breaking one by far. I’m going to sound like I’m yelling at Chihaya for a second… This guy, has had it out for you since he was a kid and he might have done some stupid things in the past as a kid but look at him now. A full grown man, ready to do anything for you Chihaya. This guy’s love for you is UNBREAKABLE and yet you don’t even see him. He has been playing Karuta all his life for what?! To become a master?! I don’t think he could care less about becoming a master to be honest. He’s doing it for you. He’s doing it for his own conviction, to prove that talent doesn’t beat hard work. That hard work can overcome those who do less. He strives to become the person who will achieve this goal. He’s done all of this for you Chihaya and you don’t see it. You don’t see him. All you see is a distant man, who really, has never been there for you. He may love you back, you may even stay with him forever, but you are going to lose the one asset, the one friend, the one support you have had YOUR ENTIRE LIFE if you go with Arata. Open your eyes Chihaya, the boy you once knew before you is now a man.

omg. I’m almost tearing up because its so sad. ITS SO SAD. The mangaka is CLEARLY headed towards Chihaya and Arata. I still have hope, that the mangaka has a soul… I still have hope that she will pick hardwork and determination over “destiny love”. That’s literally how I feel that Arata and Chihaya are like. It’s like DESTINY. THEY WERE MEANT TO BE. BULLSHIT. (excuse my french) I hate that. I HATE THAT. In-fact most of these love triangles were like that. Destiny love… ugh. Makes me sick. This guy has fallen head over heels for Chihaya and I can’t take it anymore. The manga comes out way too slow. If you haven’t watched this anime… WATCH IT WHAT ARE YOU DOING. GO.

Classic example of Hardwork vs Talent and of course we all cheer for Taichi. I literally can’t accept Arata. I can’t fathom or understand why Chihaya loves Arata so much that she is blinded to the fact that Taichi is there. I just hope that she realizes what she does if she does go out with Arata. If she goes with Arata I seriously hope that Taichi stops being friends with Chihaya…. I actually hope that happens. If she picks Arata over Taichi I hope Taichi leaves her. It’s not healthy to stay around someone who ignores your every move. [aka my ex-girlfriend before we started dating] At this point in time, Chihaya has no boyfriend. But I hope that it will end up being Taichi… please… Arata doesn’t fit the picture.

I think I’m going to go watch some depressing AMV’s about Chihaya and Taichi now.. T_T sob. sob. sob.

chihaya x taichi

Top 5 Series: Anime Girls

Boys, there comes a time where you have to take the time and appreciation of the opposite sex and especially that of the imaginary type. I love the female characters in anime, they make them exciting and really I don’t know what it is, it may just be my testosterone running but it really is part of the aspect that makes a good anime. There has to be one good looking female character in the anime to make it look good. I mean obviously there are exceptions to this but a good female character makes for some good points. I am just a fan of good female anime characters. So let’s start off this top 5 series shall we?

I dont know why but they have to be able to fight. Maybe I want my future spouse to want to be able to fight? or maybe it’s just my inner shounen going DANG she can fight, but she has to be able to fight….

Number 5. Misaka Mikoto

Anime: To aru kagaku no Railgun

I’m not to sure about the parent story of magical index (because I didn’t watch it) but I know for sure that in Railgun, Misaka is just awesome. If we talk about fighting she can fight. She is an electric shocker and level 5 at that. I love how OP J.C. staff makes her and just how strong she is. Her railgun looks fantastic. I mean everytime that music comes on by fripside (any one of the OP’s) I just get so pumped and excited because I know that the railgun is coming. Everytime I see the railgun go off my mouth drops and I think I shout (YEEEEEEE) I am a loud anime watcher, I can’t stay quite for an anime like this.

I love how tsundere she is. I actually like that on almost every single one of my top 5. hahah. Well her personality is quiet sometimes and crazy when it comes to relationships. I find that type very cute in girls. I think that personality reflects a very cute relationship. I think most girls are somewhat like that when they like someone and I think seeing that all over anime’s is very very cute.

They also place in Misaka a very childish personality to her. She likes very childish things and she reacts really funny when she gets picked on, I think that also adds to her cuteness. There’s no way to describe cute other than cute. Some people find those kinds of girls annoying but I am not one of those peoples

Let’s talk about the way misaka looks. She has a nice short cut with brownish orange hair. I don’t normally like short haired girls to be honest but I don’t really rate people on how they look anyways. The art for her is pretty well done and some people don’t like it when anime producers put in a blush on characters. I personally like the blush, I mean it is over done, but when it’s done correctly I think it helps give off an emotion as well. I short, when Misaka blushes she looks very cute.

Number 4. Mikasa Ackerman

Anime: Shingeki No Kyojin

Hey another girl who can really make it out on her own and fight. Mikasa is almost a cold hearted killer and she is always ready to do anything for Eren Jaeger. Her use of the maneuver gear and her swords only up the appearance that she gives off. Not only is shea  master at doing these things but when she twirls around and fights things you cannot help but look in awe. When Mikasa flies across the screen you have to admire how cool she looks doing so.

To be honest, Mikasa isn’t that cute in her personality. Nothing about her personality makes her cute at all. Why did I rate her higher than Misaka? Well it’s because of her love for Eren. I think that undying love is such a desirable trait for a lot of people looking for a relationship. She is willing to DIE for this guy because of their past. I think this is a very big PLUS factor for me in liking this character. Her personality is very mature and very strong willed and that’s what I like about mikasa.

Her looks? Again she’s got a short cut and black hair. I think I already covered how cool she looks. I have to say that sometimes I didn’t enjoy the animation that IG productions did on shingeki. Sometimes there was this distracting HUGE THICK BLACK LINE around the characters. It’s one of those things where it’s “once you see it you cannot un-see it”. I just couldn’t get over it. I really did like the way she looked though in that uniform, very slick and very nice.

Number 3. Sakura Kinomoto

Anime: Cardcaptor Sakura

STOP! I know what you’re thinking. You think I am a loli-con now. NO. FALSE. once you read though why I picked Sakura as my third top female anime character you will see that I am not.

FIrst of all I do not think of her like that in any way. She is a 5th grader. In fact I think of her as the ideal daughter of mine in the future. So now we got that of the way let’s get into why I picked her.

She’s very cute. I think that her personality and her fun outgoing clumsy ditsy self makes the anime very interesting to watch in the first place. Honestly each and every episode was amazing to watch because Sakura was so easy to like as a character. I think she went through the motions of so many elementary school girls and really portrayed crushes on older guys crushes on guys of her age and just being an elementary school girl in general. This anime would not have been so successful had Sakura not been so awesome.

Hey, she can fight. You to say to me that Sakura would not win in a battle? Pls sir. She can win. She’s got all her Sakura Cards. Each one of these has some killer magical ability and she converted all these cards with her OWN magic. YEE THATS RIGHT SON. She might be a little girl but watch out she bites.

I really loved the romance that went on between Sakura and Li. I thought it was the cutest thing in the whole wide world. I kind of wish I had a girlfriend in elementary school now because of this anime. The romance in this anime is to die for. It is so astonishingly well done that it almost makes me cry. Sakura’s relationship towards Li is just the best thing to watch and it just made the whole anime that much better. I mean who doesn’t like a good romance in their anime? (I’m sure some of you don’t but hey this is my blog)

Number 2. Erza Scarlet.

Anime: Fairy Tail

Erza used to be my number one back when I first started watching fairy tail. The thing about Erza is that she is from a shounen and a long one too, so you get to see her in SO MANY episodes. She is an S-ranked Mage in fairy tail and deemed one of the strongest girls who is a mage. She just whips practically anyone. You can count on her to win a fight no matter what and I would not want to get on her bad side. Her Re-quip abilities just adds to the number of costumes she can wear and she looks good in every single armour.

Her “attributes” are massive and she has a great personality. Tsundere to the max. To be honest, I wish she didn’t like Jellal because it breaks my fanboy heart. I love how she obsesses over cake and it adds to her personality. She will destroy anyone who gets in her way. She has her own cute side to her personality and she really is amazing to watch on the screen

One of my favourite Erza moments is in the Grand Games Arc. Where she defeats the 100 monsters and lifts that sword up in the air. That has to be my favourite moment of all time. There were actually so many emotions and scenes where Erza was just the pinnacle of everything that gave me goosebumps and Erza was there to do it.

Number 1. Yuuki Asuna

Anime: Sword Art Onine

Wow, SAO has made it to all 3 of my tops so far. Pretty good if I say so. Asuna is my favourite female anime character. Why? She looks great. I have to say her art and animations look stellar. Every time she went on the screen I was really happy because they would make her look so cool. You would not want to mess with this second in command girl as she totally rips anyone apart.

I love her storyline with kirito and the romance that develops between the two. They are just so cute together and they just have this quirky relationship that just works. One of the reasons why SAO wasn’t as good in the second arc was because there wasn’t as much Asuna in the second arc. Her Tsundere personality just shines and makes everything so cute.

I love it when she gets a little mad at Kirito and I love it when they show the romance in the episodes. I also like how OP she is. She is really strong and just really cute. I don’t know what else to say about her because you will just fall in love with this character. I am totally in love with this character in every sense and she is too cute. If I were to marry her I would do it in a second she is definitely my number 1.

Okay, back to reality… can’t marry… a fictional character…. sad life. I know, I am such a depressing person…

Well there’s my top 5 Anime Girls. It was really hard to narrow it down to just 5. There are so many great female characters in anime that really shape and change the dynamics of an anime. I hope you post your top 5 below and let me know which female characters you think are the best in anime.

Top 5 Series: My Favourite Anime’s

My top 5 Anime. This page will change and update when a new anime comes and takes over the spotlight. But for now, this top 5 does not include some of the ridiculously popular mega anime’s that have come out. This includes: Shingeki no Kyoujin, Sword art Online, Fairy Tail, Clannad After-Story, and the Forbidden 4 (DBZ, Naruto, One-Piece, Bleach). I hope you enjoy my top 5 list.

Honourable Mentions: Nagi no Asukara

Nagi no Asukara or A lull in the sea is an anime that really came out as a sleeper for me. Nagi no Asukara is a 2-cour 26 episode Fall 2013 anime from P.A. Works. The art-work is phenomenal in this anime. I highly recommend watching this in Blu-Ray as you will be blown away by the quality of the artwork. This is by far P.A. Works’ best production to date and will probably continue to be for quite some time. This original story stars six characters and has a highly dramatic approach. We have a lot of love interests and a lot of plot twists and it is an emotional ride from start to finish. The way these characters interact with each other is basically the whole show in a nutshell. However, the show is amazing to watch and by the end of it you are going to want to be able to live underwater. The music is done by Ray and Yanagi Nagi, two of my favourite artists, and the OP’s and ED’s were done very well. I highly recommend this anime to anyone who likes a good emotional romance.

Genre: Drama, Romance, Fantasy, P.A.Works

Number 5: Kaichou-wa Maidsama!

Kaichou wa Maidsama is a 26 episode 2-cour anime done by J.C. Staff in the Spring of 2010. This is perhaps my favourite Shoujo-RomCom of all time. The reason why is because of the intense romance tease between our two main characters. Misaki, is the student council president at her highschool and is trying to represent the girls in a highly populated boys school. Her secret, is that she works part-time at a maid-cafe which is eventually discovered by Usui, our main male protagonist. Usui is defined as the sexiest male in the school. The episodes are comically enhanced as we watch these two characters interact with each other. Misaki is your typical tsundere and Usui is your typical bad-ass. I have to say that this anime was thoroughly enjoyable and the ending episode is a strong contender for the best last episode for a series.

Genre: Comedy, Romance, Shoujo, J.C. Staff

Number 4: Chihayafuru

Chihayafuru is a 25 episode 2-cour anime created by Madhouse in Fall of 2011 and has a sequel with 25 episode that aired in Winter 2013. If you want the perfect blend of Romance and “Sports” what you end up with is Chihayafuru. There is so much pent-up drama within Chihayafuru that I cannot even contain it. We have a love triangle from the start of the anime with Chihaya(female protagonist), Arata and Taichi. These three are childhood friends. Watch the anime and you can join the debate on who is better for Chihaya. I’ll warn you right now that we still don’t know who the victor is after years of the manga being published. In any case, you will find out that this is not just about their relationships but mostly about Karuta. Karuta is a card-sport in Japan that requires speed, memorization, and endurance. Our heroine is a world-class player aiming to be the Queen of Karuta. This is Chihayafuru in a nutshell, but don’t stop at just watching the anime because you need to finish the story. The manga is still being published and it is amazing. For those of you who have had a lot of romance suffering and rejection, watch this anime. There is so much character development and hopefully you will love this anime as much as I have.

Number 3: Usagi Drop

Bunny Drop, A heart-warming story, 11 episodes, 1-cour, Production I.G. Have you ever wanted to have a kid? Well, Rin is pretty much the perfect child. Our story is about Daichi and Rin and how they struggle through what life throws at them. Daichi is a single male bachelor who adopts Rin as a daughter because his Grandfather, who was taking care of Rin, passed away. Rin is a five year old child (who really acts like an eight year old child) and she is already so mature and responsible for herself. You are going to find that you will fall in love with both of these characters and it is so fun to watch Rin interact with the world. Anything she does is so cute-loving-heartwarming. The thing I like about this anime is that it’s not too dramatic but stuff happens in their lives that complicates the story. In the end it is a really great story and I think everyone should watch the anime. If you don’t want to ruin your anime experience don’t read the manga. That’s all I’m going to say about that

Genre: Slice of Life, Production I.G.

Number 2: Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo

The pet girl of Sakurasou is a 24 episode 2-cour anime by J.C. Staff. This anime has a lot of drama, a lot of cheesy goodness, romance, and all in all pretty funny too. We follow the story of Sorata, who is your average student at the Sakurasou dormitory. He suddenly finds himself in a position where he has to take care of his classmate, Shiina, who seems to be street-dumb in every sense but talented in art in every way. In fact, you will find that everyone at Sakurasou is talented at one thing except for Sorata, and this becomes an overarching theme throughout the anime. The Characters and themes within this anime stand out as a huge plus side. There are tonnes of things going on in every episode that you can’t believe how much they fit into a 23-minute time frame. Every character has their own problems and their own issues and yet they have such likable traits to them. A lot of the themes in this anime hit a home-run for me. I won’t spoil all the themes in this review but go ahead and watch this for yourself. The art is very appealing and I would vouch for a Blu-ray version of this anime as well.

Genre: Drama, Romance, Comedy, School, J.C. Staff

Number 1: Nodame Cantabile

This anime spans over three season done by J.C. Staff. The first in Winter 2007, the second in Fall 2008, and the final season in Winter 2010. The final episode total is 45. This has always had a strong biased for the top of my list. I am music major and this anime is one of the rare anime’s about an older audience, university students, and classical music. We have a 2nd year piano student Nodame, and a 3rd year piano student Chiaki. Their relationship is perhaps similar to Kaichou wa Maid-sama in the sense that it is a huge romance tease throughout the whole anime. The biggest plus to the anime is the comedy in the anime. It is funny, every episode is hilarious. If you like Beethoven, there is a plethora of Beethoven in this anime and I am so happy. If you don’t like classical music, you might not enjoy this to 100% of its capacity, but it still has a solid story, it is still funny and it you still will enjoy the anime quite a bit. The story ends in weird position, this is partially due to the fact that the artist had arthritis in her hand after drawing so much. So the story has a quick finish in the manga that you will want to read after you are done the anime.

Genre: Music, Comedy, off-Romance, J.C. Staff

Top 5 Series: Anime for Newbs

Hello all, I will start to post some Top 5 series posts. These will consist of various categories but they will all be under the top 5 series. For now I will start off the series with the one that may appeal to most people. Anime For Newbs. These are designed to give recommendations for people who have never watched anime and want to get started or see what Anime is about.

Number 5. Death Note

Genre: Mystery, Psychological, Thriller
Maturity Rating: 16+

This anime is a great kick-start to anime. It has a really solid story, it is a great watch for anyone. The characters in this anime are nothing but outstanding. To give you a bit of the taste of the setting, Light Yagami, A highschool senior is sick of the world as it is. He is disgusted with the crimes, the people, the lifestyle that everyone goes through. He ends up finding a notebook that if you think the persons face and write their name in the notebook they will die. He ends up using this notebook to become a vigil anti. The story has great twists and turns and you will not be disappointed with this anime for certain

Just some side notes, You CAN watch this in english dubbed. They don’t do a bad job at dubbing it in english however I would advise you to watch it in Japanese to really get the feel of the original content. As well, if you are newer to anime it’s always better to watch it in Japanese with english subtitles. It’s pretty much 95% of the time better to watch it in the original content.

I recommend this anime for everyone who wants to start out just watching anime. My brother doesn’t like anime and even he was hooked in by the 2nd or 3rd episode.

Number 4. Sword Art Online

Genre: Gaming, Action, Romance, Fantasy
Maturity Rating 16+

Hey, It’s in my top 5 anime for a reason and I will now re-give it in here. SAO, really strong throughout the entire series and I feel it gives off a great idea for the Virtual Reality anime. It is probably the best VRMMO anime out there to date and it is most definitely very entertaining.

SAO is an anime about video games, if you have ever played a video game or ever wanted to LIVE inside of a video game, this is the anime for you. It is absolutely astonishing how great of an environment this anime gives. I wish I could say more without spoiling it but let’s just say this anime has a lot of aspects to it. If you want to read more about it, hit up my Top 5 list.

I recommend this anime for everyone who has ever wanted to live inside of a video game, it is pretty much the best anime out there for video games.

Number 3. Shingeki No Kyojin

Genre: Action, Psychological, Thriller
Maturity Rating 16+

Again, a bit of overlap with my Top 5 Anime list, however I think this is a very good generic anime that everyone will like to watch. If you want a summary of this anime it’s also in my top 5 list.

I recommend this anime for anyone. I literally mean anyone. It will not let you down, there are so many good twist and turns and it is an exciting ride all the way to the end. I can tell you right now that this anime is probably the best anime in 2013 and most definitely the best one of spring 2013. It is a great thrill to watch and anyone can watch it. I put this one third over SAO because this one is geared more to a broader audience. In my top 5 List the orders are switched only because I enjoyed SAO more.

Shingeki no Kyojin is appropriate for all people and you can’t really go wrong with Shingeki no Kyojin.

Number 2. Mobile Suit Gundam Seed (Remastered)

Genre: Mech, Action
Maturity Rating:13+

Although it’s nice to look at the original version of Gundam seed, the remastered version is definitely the way to go. It is more defined and has more recent animations. There are very subtle differences between the original and the remastered ones but all in all it is the exact same plot and story just with VERY subtle differences in animation. I highly recommend this anime for anyone who has not seen the Gundam franchise as it is one of the most popular franchises out there. There is nothing better than a classic and this is a classic anime to start your road down to anime. This is the mech anime that started all mech anime’s and is the basis for all mech anime’s down the road.

To set the stage a bit, Kira Yamato, a university student in a space colony, is in a neutral territory off in space. That neutral territory gets sucked into the war that is going on between enhanced humans and normal humans. These fights are revolved around machines operated by men called GUNDAM’s. These powerful machines govern the power of a country and are the key to winning the war.

If you want a Great plot with Great action mixed in I suggest this anime for you. This is the pivotal anime and one of the most classic anime’s out there. Gundam seed to anime is like what the Beatles are to music. This anime will not disappoint and will most certainly be very fun to watch

Number 1. Full Metal Alchemist (Brotherhood)

Genre: Action, Fantasy
Maturity Rating 14+

If there is one anime that everyone loves it has to be full metal alchemist. There are two series to Full Metal Alchemist, I suggest you watch the one titled Brotherhood because it follows closer to the Manga. Both are exceptionally well done but if you want the original story I suggest watching brotherhood. If you want to watch both series I would start off by watching FMA and then watching FMA Brotherhood.

The two elric brothers are two very talented alchemists who are on a journey to return their bodies back to normal. After doing an illegal action, they traded their bodies for something that no body in the world could attain, a human transmutation. So, their search for the philosopher stone begins and the exciting adventure that entails.

I really recommend this also to anyone who has never watched anime. This one is perfect, it has a lot of action, romance, comedy, fantasy. But it is really well done. I have to say it is one of the best anime’s out there and it is a modern classic. FMA is by far one of the most original and intriguing stories out there and will lay down a strong foundation of anime for you.

Of course there are many types of anime out there and a lot more that were amazing stories and adventure, I couldn’t put every single one down, but if you are just starting anime and you want to know what anime is about I would start with this list.
