Mid Summer Blues 2014

The summer anime season of 2014 has never felt so good than at this moment. While the sun is shining and the birds are singing, I am inside working at my summer-job while sulking because I do not have the time to write about anime. That being said, I have watched so many GOOD anime this season and have been reading some of the more prolific anime bloggers on their opinions. I have to say, that seventh-style is just a little too harsh on the anime that they really dislike. Upon reading these blogs I said to myself, I must undo this injustice and bring back and revive my insignificant blog to better my emotions and hurt feelings of those from the seventh-style blogging community. And thus, I will begin my recommendations for this season.

Sword Art Online II

Among all the anime this season, this was definitely the most anticipated one for myself and many other viewers. Not only is it the most loved anime this season, it has gotten the most hate and heat from critics, bloggers, otaku and other people. I will start of by saying this, Anime is only as good as you want it to be. The wide popularity of this show has created a massive surge of people who ask… why? Why is this anime so widely liked, it is easy to answer, because it’s about VRMORPG’s. People quickly say “the plot is bad, character design is bad” and so on and so forth. However I want to point out right here and now I like where this anime is going.

The pacing of the second season is MUCH slower than the first season. This is not a bad thing, I think the first season of SAO went way too quickly, it was probably why it got so much hate in the first place. The animators decided to animate this novel much slower. Thus, we have a slower paced show, but good quality.

Spoiler alert, Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you have probably heard by now that Kirito’s avatar looks like a girl in GGO. Now, he actually isn’t a girl, his avatar just looks like one. For all of you who are freaking out about Kirito being a girl or not being a girl, stop. Let’s take into perspective that the man actually looks nothing like a girl, and that he just as longer hair. Also, If I were making a character in an MMORPG, lets be honest, I would make some sexy chick.

Asuna’s role is greatly diminished in this season of Sword Art, however, did she really play a big role in Alfheim online? No I think not. Plus Sinon is a great addition to SAO. She has a good character design and she isn’t as shallow as some of the other people take her to be. Alot of people watching SAO get caught up with how the characters emotions react about a game…. well lets save that for another blog post, I have many more anime to post about….

All in all, Sword Art Online II Brings it’s A-game to the table, no disappointments so far, slow movement, but each episode is filled with anticipation and excitement. I am really looking forward to the future episodes of this show and already I am hoping for a third season. You can watch for a post from me every week without a doubt about this show.

Ao Haru Ride

The shoujo-romance for the season. It has a really good story and it is really refreshing to watch. It is about two people, a guy and a girl, who in elementary school really liked each other. They knew each other well, they were friends, they really embraced their time together. However, as time went on, they went to different middle schools, different towns and different places. Finally in Highschool they are re-united only to note that they no longer know each other, and that they are incredibly different people from who they used to be.

The anime is about how they slowly start to find those lingering feelings deep down inside, and how they piece together the emotions we call love. There’s a little bit of drama, a little bit of romance, and a little bit of our typical slice of life. It’s refreshing to watch something that is in the more normal spectrum of shoujo’s and romance. I like to think that I enjoy a wide variety of shoujo’s and I can say that this one will not disappoint you.

People who like slice, romance, drama. This is your standard shoujo

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun

The Rom-com for the season. The plot of the story is nothing overwhelming but it is definitely a good show to watch. The plot is missing mostly because this is a parody of shoujo’s in general. I have to say the humour in this is done very well. The heroine Sakura, likes our manga artist Nozaki-kun. Seems like your typical rom-com right? Well, not really. I don’t want to spoil most of the humour so I will save the synopsis for a later review, but I can definitely recommend this show for anyone who is looking for a good laugh this season.

The anime is nothing deep, but if you like manga anime like bakuman, you might enjoy this anime as well. It has the right mix of comedy and it is appropriate for everyone. The romance is really not apparent in this anime, so I would not recommend it for those of you looking for a romance.

This is probably one of the most underrated anime’s of this season. A lot of people did not like this series, and I can see why a lot of people didn’t like it, but what I don’t get is why they REALLY didn’t like it. To me, it’s just your average slice of life PA-works that really focuses on a lot of drama with a bit of a fantasy twist. To be fair, I don’t really like the fantasy twist, but it plays a small role, and it’s really just used to bring two people together. Other than that though, I find this series is quite enjoyable especially if you are a fan of PA-works. It really plays to the same style as PA-works other anime’s and it is really similar to them in that sense.

I would not recommend this anime to people who do not like a little bit of un-organized plot. It is a little messy and sometimes the direction is lost a bit, but despite all that, I would still recommend this anime if nothing else because it is by PA -works and they have amazing art.

Zankyou no Terror

Of all the anime this season, this is the one that I find to be one of the better written and most interesting anime’s this season. I don”t really want to give away too much of the plot, but essentially this anime is a mix of Deathnote but replace it with bombs. The show features a tonne of puzzles and mystery and really keeps you on edge for basically the whole episode. Each episode feels like a puzzle piece to solve the episode and it really is quite an interesting concept. Also, the intentions of the heroines are also part of the overall arching puzzle as well. All in all, it is a good anime to enjoy if you like watching a little tension mixed in with mystery.

Ald Noah Zero

Mecha mecha mecha, and a good one at that. This one is done decently well, my only qualms is that the main character is very emotionless, but if you can get over that, this series is a real treat. The setting for the war is almost identical to the story of gundam seed, at least, it will feel like that for the first episode. The show however really feels like the main character is some-what of a zero. He has the same kind of smartness to him that makes the episode interesting and innovative. The main character finds some sort of cool and innovative way to defeat the martians who have kataphrakts (gundams) of a stronger level. In any-sense, this is a pretty good mecha and it is a must see for those who really like to watch fighting robots.

On another note, for those of you who like to watch anime for the soundtrack. If you enjoyed the music from shingeki and KLK, you will definitely enjoy ALd Noah Zero’s soundtrack. The sound track is made by the same composer, SawanoHiroyuki. If you guys are a big fan of any of these anime’s you should definitely check out Ald Noah for the soundtrack if anything.

There are a couple more honourable mentions I would like to point out such as Tokyo Ghoul and Akame Ga Kill. If you guys want to check those out be my guest, theyre pretty sweet as well! Well, that’s all I have for now, look out for me to start posting a little more frequently now.

Naruto Shippuuden 372

I don’t normally blog about naruto, but when I do, you know crazy stuff is happening in the anime. To be perfectly honest with you guys, I have not read past this point in the manga so I have no idea what is going to happen and I do not want to know, but right now, this episode was worth bringing my attention to. This review will contain spoilers and if you don’t like spoilers stop reading, and go watch the episode.

Minato turning into kyuubi form??! I was NOT expecting that. I am a huge fan of Minato. Especially when he uses his teleportation jutsu. Him showing up at all in this episode was a treat in itself, him turning into kyuubi mode was icing on the already perfect cake. It was so nice to watch. In general, Naruto is what I like to call a super anime. (A shounen that goes on forever) In these so-called super anime, generally only one exciting thing happens in the episode and then it stops there. However, this episode was jammed pack with excitement because Sasuke also appears in this episode. Now if you guys didn’t know I am totally shipping Sakura and Naruto, and that ship has probably sunk 50 times over already, so Sasuke’s anticipated return was bittersweet.

A lot of people struggle with Sasuke’s return to Konoha so I will lay it out for you guys. Sasuke’s original hate is towards his brother, then he finds out the truth about his brother and it points towards konoha, but then he discovers the truth about konoha and madara so now his hatred is pointed towards madara and rebuilding the village in a way that he sees fit. He wants to declare a Hokage war against Naruto and in the end it becomes a full circle. Naruto represents Senju clan. Sasuke represents the Uchiha. If you remember the talk about the uchiha and senju trying to coincide together in the village, he wants to make sure what happened to his clan never happens again. He never resented naruto nor his friends. I mean yes, his emotions seem a little unnatural, but I can work with it, it’s an anime were talking about here not some class A novel…

On a completely different topic, I like how I just realized that sakura naruto and sasuke were all taught by the three legendary sannins. I’m an idiot.

Itazura na Kiss

I absolutely recommend this to all RomCom and shoujo lovers. This is a classic anime and it really gives such a good feel after watching the whole thing.

To give an overview, it’s about a high-school girl who is a classic clutz. She isn’t very good at anything and excels at nothing. She has a crush on the smartest and most talented guy in the school. He is a cold hearted person and really wants nothing to do with our heroine. The story is about how she goes about to get him to fall in love with her. I don’t want to give much more away, but definitely one that will warm your heart at the end of the whole series.

I think in general, this anime took very little risks, which I don’t mind. I’m easy to please in the sense that I don’t need some intricate plot to make it good. KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid). Simple, yet fun = good. I can’t say this was a masterpiece, but I did enjoy the subtleties that this anime brought.

The music is really good. The emotions that come from the opening and endings were really good, and they still stick in my head right now. In general, this anime is definitely not realistic in any sense, but it is nice to get away from all the drama of the world and just have a nice feel good anime sometimes. So if you’re feeling down or heartbroken and want to give this one a try, GO FOR IT! Itazura na Kiss is perfect for you!

GoldenTime Finale

Well, it’s over now, I don’t know how to react to the ending other than I was disappointed.

I mean, we all knew what was going to happen, but it’s not a secret how I wanted it to end either. I mean, Linda is too nice of a person. She could have easily fought, she could have fought and WON. I think if she tried to actually win over his heart it would have happened. But of course, author just decides that Koko is the winner and not a thought was given to Linda.

That’s too bad

It was a great ride overall, I think there were a lot of emotional points and a lot of good cliffhangers. There are a couple of issues that I had with this anime though.

One of them was that they basically spoiled the whole show by making the Opening and Endings based on the main character. There was literally no chance for Linda at all, not even in the mind, it was kind of a huge spoiler. The next issue I had is the fact that every cliffhanger had a fast resolve to it. It was too fast. It was as if there was no point to having the cliffhanger there at all. Literally the episode after the issue was resolved in less than 2 minutes. The anime could have been much better and more dramatic had it been properly done.

Last and final thing, was that I still have a sour taste in my mouth from episode 22. I cannot accept the fact that she created all that turmoil and treated Banri like that.

Final thoughts, I really love Linda’s Character, not cool how she falls in love with Yana. Yana and Linda don’t fit together to me. And it seems that she really didn’t try at all to get Banri. But other than that, this series was a good rollercoaster ride and I’m hoping that next season there will be more romance for me to follow.

Top 5: Relationships that will never happen

This is a sad topic for me, I really love relationships and when they don’t go my way I’m a sucker for the other person. It almost makes me depressed to the point where I feel like I was the one who got rejected instead of an anime character. Call me a Romance Otaku pls. I rated this on these criteria, the amount of pain that it caused when they didn’t get together and also how well they would have looked together. Let’s take a look at my top 5 relationships that will never happen. I pretty much have a love hate relationship with love triangles… By the way, I’m going out of my way and making guesses for the relationships that are obviously not going to happen. At this point in time, I’m guessing that three of the five aren’t going to happen and I know for sure that two of the five aren’t going to happen. So yes, I will be speculating that they will never happen. But this post CLEARLY CONTAINS SPOILERS. So if you don’t like spoilers then don’t read. But if you are butt hurt about some relationships like I am then go right ahead and read…

Rolling in at number 5….

5. Nisekoi: Ichijou and Onodera

Now, I know the anime isn’t over, but let’s face it fans this isn’t going to happen. I mean, look at where the anime is going with the show. We are ten episodes in and they are slowly pulling Kirisaki and Ichijou closer and closer. I mean the whole premise of the show is to make the false-love into a real one. But without getting into too much of a debate lets talk about Onodera and Ichijou.

Cute, so cute. The reason why this isn’t a little higher is because they just don’t really have that much interaction between them. Yes they get a lot of screentime together and yes they like each other a lot, but there really isn’t too much depth behind the love. I mean a 10 year ago promise? That has no depth if you don’t remember the person or their name. WHAT KIND OF PROMISE IS THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE IF YOU DON’T KNOW THEIR NAME… Also, they look cute together, they really do. But they just have that reaction to each other. I like that feeling sometimes, but at the end of the day, what really matters to me the most is how much depth there is in our friendship and what it means to me. I could go on about friendship and more, but this is just too much. Onodera and Ichijou will never happen.

Reasons being:

1. Kirisaki is the main premise of the show, she is the main girl and she will fall in love with Ichijou
2. Onodera and Ichijou would be a “cute” couple but a couple with no depth to it.
3. Ichijou is definitely falling in love with Kirisaki, he knows her quirks and her quarks and this is clearly the direction of the show.

Heart breaking for me, but I like kirisaki more anyways if you couldn’t tell. I think either matchup would fit, but kirisaki and Ichijou work way better

4. Toradora: Ryuuji x Minori

minori x ryuuji

Ahh everyone loves a classic. I don’t have as much to say about this since it’s already done.. BUT, the whole point of the show was supposed to be to get together with Minori and somehow turned around and he went for Taiga… GO FIGURE!

Well, what’s so sad about this is that she has a beautiful heart and she really liked Ryuuji in the end. I think she is so kind a thoughtful. Her personality is sparking and energetic and I like girls who are like that. I think she will learn a lot from this heart ache and we can take a lot from this anime.

3. Golden Time: Banri and Linda

Banri x Linda

When the rain falls, when the wind blows… When the flowers scatter, when the shadows loom… In every sign I’ll search for your voice. – Banri

Well, it’s been a couple days since I posted about Linda and Banri and I think it’s time to face the fact that they are probably not getting together in the series. It just wouldn’t make any sense. Koko and Banri are written all over the OP’s and ED’s and there’s like a 1000% chance that they are not getting together. Does this mean I think Koko is a better fit for Banri? HELL NO. Linda was 100000% better choice. She stuck beside him thick and thin. How is it her fault that he fell off the bridge. THATS NOT LINDA’S FAULT. I mean, of course we don’t know what she was going to say on that bridge but still. LOOK AT HER NOW. I love linda, her personality is off the charts awesome. Her interactions with Banri are OFF THE CHARTS AWESOME. Look at Koko, she is SUCH A B%@#! “Oh I broke up with you yesterday, lets be friends” Okay, that’s not how it works Koko. You are being a total…. AIUHF. I was actually warming up to the idea of Koko being his girlfriend but now I can’t handle it. It’s too much. She doesn’t deserve Banri. Banri deserves Linda… Case closed #teamlinda

2. Sakurasou: Sorata and Nanami

Sorata x Nanami

“You know, I’ve always… always… loved you… No, I really I love you” – Nanami

I LOVED THIS ANIME. The love triangle in this was too much for me to handle sometimes. It’s almost DEPRESSING to see how much Nanami loved Sorata and didn’t say anything. I think it’s the most painful thing to HOLD IT IN. How can you love someone so much and not tell them. It’s probably the most painful thing ever. EVER. I’ve experienced it before and it’s not fun. Probably the worst regret in my whole life is not telling someone that I loved them. You can’t get over them until they reject you. That’s just how it is.

Again, the anime is just set-up for Mashiro. Nanami really almost had 0 chance to take it away. I mean, she is probably the most sincere, best couple material for Sorata. But how can you NOT LIKE MASHIRO. But I was pretty damn sad in this anime. I felt Nanami’s pain 100% of the way. Probably portrayed in one of the best ways possible. This might sound weird, but I love watching the heart ache, I love watching the pain. Not because it’s fun, but because I’ve been there before and knowing that someone else knows my pain and shares it makes everything feel better. If you can connect to an anime like this, it’s the best.

1. Chihayafuru: Taichi and Chihaya

taichi x chihaya

Yeah, I’m hopelessly in love with Chihaya. – Taichi

I think I’m going to cry. This one is the most heart breaking one by far. I’m going to sound like I’m yelling at Chihaya for a second… This guy, has had it out for you since he was a kid and he might have done some stupid things in the past as a kid but look at him now. A full grown man, ready to do anything for you Chihaya. This guy’s love for you is UNBREAKABLE and yet you don’t even see him. He has been playing Karuta all his life for what?! To become a master?! I don’t think he could care less about becoming a master to be honest. He’s doing it for you. He’s doing it for his own conviction, to prove that talent doesn’t beat hard work. That hard work can overcome those who do less. He strives to become the person who will achieve this goal. He’s done all of this for you Chihaya and you don’t see it. You don’t see him. All you see is a distant man, who really, has never been there for you. He may love you back, you may even stay with him forever, but you are going to lose the one asset, the one friend, the one support you have had YOUR ENTIRE LIFE if you go with Arata. Open your eyes Chihaya, the boy you once knew before you is now a man.

omg. I’m almost tearing up because its so sad. ITS SO SAD. The mangaka is CLEARLY headed towards Chihaya and Arata. I still have hope, that the mangaka has a soul… I still have hope that she will pick hardwork and determination over “destiny love”. That’s literally how I feel that Arata and Chihaya are like. It’s like DESTINY. THEY WERE MEANT TO BE. BULLSHIT. (excuse my french) I hate that. I HATE THAT. In-fact most of these love triangles were like that. Destiny love… ugh. Makes me sick. This guy has fallen head over heels for Chihaya and I can’t take it anymore. The manga comes out way too slow. If you haven’t watched this anime… WATCH IT WHAT ARE YOU DOING. GO.

Classic example of Hardwork vs Talent and of course we all cheer for Taichi. I literally can’t accept Arata. I can’t fathom or understand why Chihaya loves Arata so much that she is blinded to the fact that Taichi is there. I just hope that she realizes what she does if she does go out with Arata. If she goes with Arata I seriously hope that Taichi stops being friends with Chihaya…. I actually hope that happens. If she picks Arata over Taichi I hope Taichi leaves her. It’s not healthy to stay around someone who ignores your every move. [aka my ex-girlfriend before we started dating] At this point in time, Chihaya has no boyfriend. But I hope that it will end up being Taichi… please… Arata doesn’t fit the picture.

I think I’m going to go watch some depressing AMV’s about Chihaya and Taichi now.. T_T sob. sob. sob.

chihaya x taichi

Golden Time 22

Don’t worry guys I have yet to have forgotten about blogging. Just been swamped with work and I didn’t realize that I wouldn’t be able to blog as much… That being said, I’ll post out here every now and again. Probably won’t do every episode but just the good ones ^^

WOW. WAHH. THIS EPISODE WAS AMAZING. The best episode BY FAR of the show. I mean, I was practically crying with the Banri and Linda. There is so much to talk about this episode I don’t even know where to start.

I guess we can start where Koko is a complete douche bag. Yeah, I said it, she was a complete douche bag. I don’t like to say nasty things on my blog, but that was just HORRENDOUS. I was starting to really settle into the idea that “Oh… Koko is a really great match.. Wow, such a good couple…” Well after watching that opening scene at the university I have to say my heart will not even tug once if they get back together. SCREW THAT. GET OUT. YOU DON’T DESERVE BANRI. All high and mighty and acting like that, like seriously. I know she is probably breaking up with him for his own sake, but being a douche bag about it and over-reacting like that was a bit too harsh. I mean, he is FULLY IN LOVE WITH YOU KOKO. WAKE UP. But I digress, what was done in the last episode was done. Banri, I hope you get together with Linda.

LINDA! YOUR RESPONSE WAS 10/10. I have to say to the author of golden time. I love you. That was perfectly written. I can’t believe how good that was. Linda was holding back for maybe the better part of the year so that Banri can give his undying love to Koko. She loved Banri so much that she didn’t say anything and let her love show by letting him be happy in his own way. And now that they broke up. BOOM, SHE IS PISSED. And why you might ask? Because all that effort of holding back not saying anything and not doing anything and Banri just GIVES UP. Such an emotional part for me. I was like DAMN THIS SO GOOD. That whole time I was on the edge of my seat and then the ED hit. I can’t believe how short these episodes feel. Oh and when Linda was shouting out her feelings. I was going YES, YOU TELL HIM. YOU WAITED THIS LONG AND NOW IS THE MOMENT TO TELL HIM. PERFECT

10/10 FOR STORY!

btw… Koko is a freaking psychopath after this episode… LIKE SERIOUSLY…

10/10 MUSIC

I just want next week to happen already. please…. time…. next week. faster…

#teamlinda always and forever

hell banri, I’ll go out with Linda if you take Koko
